Speed limits in Grenoble

Speed limits in Grenoble will be displayed in km/h. Unless otherwise indicated by road signs, you should follow these speed limits:

Main roads in and around Grenoble

Several main roads run through Grenoble.

• N481 runs along the north bank of River Isere
• A480 runs along the east bank of River Drac
• A41 and D512 will take you north towards the National Park of Chartreuse
• D531 runs south from Grenoble towards Vercors Regional Natural Park

Grenoble to Mont Blanc

Travel from Grenoble to one of the most scenic mountains in the world – Mont Blanc - in around two hours.

• Head north-east out of Grenoble on the D1090 towards the A41.
• Join the A41 toll road and continue for 41km towards the A43.
• Stay on the A43 17km before taking the exit towards Aix Les Bains.
• Use the left lane to join the E712 and continue for 76km
• Take the exit towards Mont Blanc, following the N205 for 70km.

Grenoble to Geneva Airport (French Side)

• Take the D1090 out of Grenoble and join the A41 in La Tronche.
• Continue on the A41 toll road for around 120km.
• Join the A1 towards the D1005 to reach the airport.

Grenoble to Grenoble Airport

• Use the N481 to join the A48 toll road in Saint-Egreve and continue for 26km.
• Take exit nine towards Vienne and join the D119.
• Continue for 11km before taking the D154D exit towards the airport.

Top things to do in Grenoble

Hiking

From the Bastille, you can follow 820km of hiking trails that lead you through the valleys, hills and forests of Vercors and Chartreuse. Park up and choose your own part of this massive route, such as the Chemin des Mules, which loops through 6km of Chartreuse Regional National Park and takes around two hours.

Visit chateau of Vizille

The chateau of Vizille (Place du Château, 38220 Vizille) is just a short 20-minute drive from Grenoble. It houses one of the only museums in the country entirely dedicated to the French revolution.  The beautifully landscaped grounds contain well-maintained gardens and attractive footbridges, leading out into the woods filled with deer.

With an adventure rope course, panoramic restaurant and mountain troop’s museum, there’s plenty to see and do around this towering historical monument. The highlight is the iconic bubble-shaped cable cars that carry you from the city right to the top of the Bastille. Park up nearby and hop in one of the class carriages for a breathtaking view of the city.
