Located just 24 kilometres northwest of Belfast and less than 80 kilometres south of the iconic coastal location known as the Giant's Causeway, Belfast International Airport sits in the heart of things.

In order to discover all the charm that the area has to offer, renting a car can take you wherever you want to go – whether you’re here on business or vacation.

Simply choose your vehicle from our extensive fleet online, reserve direct in advance, and our helpful team will aim to get you on the road soon after you arrive. It's as simple as landing, collecting your keys and setting off on your adventure into Northern Ireland.

Driving in and around Belfast

Driving in and around Belfast

Ideally located to access both city attractions and the stunning sights of Northern Ireland, travelling in a rental car from Belfast International Airport couldn't be easier.

To get into Belfast, you'll need to depart via the A57 Airport Road, then the A26 to Ballyhill Road, then Ligoniel Road before picking up Crumlin Road into the city.

Without having to rely on public transport, you can also easily access areas further afield.

Northern Ireland's road network is relatively easy to navigate. Why not take the A2 for a coastal resort day trip to Bangor, or the M2 then A26 northwest to Portrush to admire the seaside setting and famous golf course? From here you could then pick up the A2 east for the awe-inspiring Giant's Causeway.

Driving is on the left side of the road, as with the rest of the UK, while speed limits typically vary from 20mph (32km/h) and 30mph (48km/h) in built-up areas, to 60mph (96km/h) on major rural roads and 70mph (112km/h) on many motorways.

Petrol stations in Northern Ireland are mostly open between the hours of 8am and 10pm, but if you're passing through cities you may discover some 24-hour garages.

If you need to park your car in Belfast, there are many convenient lots – both council-owned and private – dotted around the centre and outskirts.

A quick guide to Belfast and beyond

A quick guide to Belfast and beyond

Belfast International Airport is ideally located as a gateway to experience the beauty of Northern Ireland.

With a rental car, you'll have the key to unlock this wondrous corner of the world at your leisure.

Visit Titanic Belfast

On the centenary of the loss of the Titanic, this centre opened and welcomed the public for the first time.

The impact the ship has had on this city can't be underestimated – it was built in Belfast and its whole production was overseen from the harbour. Explore interactive displays about the Titanic's history and construction, through to the extraordinary expedition to discover the wreckage.

Get an aerial view of the city

Journey to the top of the Divis and Black Mountain walk and you'll be able to look out over the whole of Belfast and even further afield.

Along this picturesque hike through a varied landscape you'll have the pleasure of spotting a plethora of wildlife.

The main car park for this is located just 10 kilometres west of Belfast city centre, making it easy to experience this breathtaking view. Arrive nice and early, park up and take your time to soak up the sights – pack yourself a picnic and enjoy your lunch with unrivalled views at the top.

Walk the Giant's Causeway

The Giant's Causeway has drawn countless visitors over the years, and with good reason. Located just over an hour’s drive away from Belfast and around an hour from the airport, this stunning natural attraction is not to be missed.

The causeway consists of around 40,000 interlocking basalt columns which were formed as a result of an ancient volcanic eruption. Visiting this geological wonder is an unforgettable experience.

Admire the mysterious Lough Neagh

Just a short drive from the airport you’ll find this glassy freshwater lake, which is the largest in the British Isles. It's so large, in fact, that it supplies a staggering 40% of Northern Ireland's water.

Park up at Antrim Castle Gardens and admire the flora and fauna of this striking area. This is the perfect place to unwind after a flight – soak up the tranquil atmosphere and feel the soothing benefits.

Immerse yourself in the delights of traditional Irish music, hop on a boat trip, sit on the shore with a picnic or go cycling – you're sure to find contentment here.

Explore Winterfell

Around an hour’s drive south of Belfast lies the Castle Ward Estate, which was used extensively during the filming of much-loved TV drama Game of Thrones.

Regardless of whether you're a fan of the Lannisters or the Starks, however, this is a beautiful place to visit.

It features in a coastal location, is set next to a spectacular forest and boasts delicious eateries. Choose from biking tours, movie set experiences, or even canoe and kayak hire and archery – whatever you're interested in, Castle Ward will enhance your trip.

With car rental at Belfast International Airport, you can experience all this and more. Reserve direct today.
