Outside is a parkland filled with exotic trees and shrubs as well as a Victorian walled garden. Inside, you’ll find detailed paintings, traditional furniture and incredible stone carvings. It’s well worth the drive.

Holyhead is full of natural beauty, and Breakwater Country Park is one of the most beloved displays of this.

It is such a breathtaking path that the area is now a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, looping to other towns in the surrounding area of Anglesey.

South Stack Cliffs

Situated just off Holy Island, South Stack is another perfect spot to immerse yourself in nature, with untouched scenery and natural beauty.

You can park by the iconic Holyhead Lighthouse before making your way over the bridge leading into South Stack, after the ten-minute drive from town. The walk is only five minutes long, and you’ll be rewarded with the most incredible view of the open ocean.

The main attraction is the tall lighthouse in the centre of the Island. Climb to the top and you’ll improve the already incredible view tenfold.

See if you can spot the adorable wild puffins that roam the cliffs. These comical creatures are full of personality, making welcome appearances in spring and summer. As well as these cute birds, you may also be able to spot the silver-studded blue butterfly and rare chough.

Trefignath

If you want to immerse yourself in the history of Holyhead, then a trip to Trefignath should be on the cards.

Often referred to as the ‘little Stonehenge’, Trefignath is a three-chamber Neolithic burial landmark that carries an air of eerie mystery. Thought to have been built in three phases, experts say the prehistoric monument may date all the way back to 3100 BC – offering a compelling insight into the area’s distant past.
