Parking in Slough

There are several free car parks in Slough, although some have limited spaces. These include Elmshott Lane, Shelly Close and Vicarage Way.

• Herschel Street Car Park has over 400 standard spaces, and you can park overnight.
• Buckingham Gardens Car Park has around 47 spaces.

Traffic in Slough

Slough is situated on the outskirts of London, so roads can be busy during rush hour, particularly heading into London in the morning and out of the capital in the evening.

Rush hour is from around 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm. Traffic can be particularly busy on the M4 and the M25, if you’re heading that way. 

How to get from Slough to Black Park Country Park

From the Hertz pick up location in Slough Business Park to Black Park Country Park (SL3 6DS) is just over 7km (4.5miles), taking around 20 minutes.

To get to from Slough Business Park to Black Park Country Park:

1.      Head south on Farnham Road
2.      Turn left on to the A355 / Farnham Road
3.      Turn left again on to the A4/Bath Road
4.      Head straight over the next roundabout before taking a left on to the A412/Uxbridge Road
5.      Continue down this road until you see Black Park Road on your left.
6.      Turn here and drive to your destination.

Roads and motorways

Main routes in Slough

• The M4 runs along the south of the town, continuing on to Wales in the west and London in the east. 
• The A4 joins up with the M4 and takes you towards Heathrow Airport and continues towards Royal Botanic Gardens in Richmond.
• The M25 runs along the east of Slough and continues around the outskirts of London, making it easy to head into any part of the capital.

Slough to Bournemouth

You are less than two hours from the south coast of England and its beautiful beaches. Take the M4 out of Slough heading east and join the M25 towards the south. Come off at the M3 and join the M27 and then the A31 through the New Forest National Park. The A338 will then take you down to the coast.

Slough to Cardiff

It’s easy to drive into Wales from Slough. You are around two and a half hours from the capital, Cardiff. Join the M4 heading west and stay on this road. You’ll pass Reading, Swindon and Bristol, eventually arriving in Cardiff.

Slough drives on the left and overtakes on the right. The speed limits are in miles per hour. The speed limit on motorways is 70mph, or 112km/h.

What to see and do in and around Slough

Go Ape Black Park

Nestled in 535 acres of woodland, you’ll find treetop adventure for the whole family at Go Ape Black Park (SL3 6DS). The course is over half a mile long and includes a 170-metre zipwire. While you’re here, there is also forest Segway, a fun way to explore the park. Parking is available but at a cost.

LEGOLAND®

If you’re travelling with youngsters, then you won’t want to miss LEGOLAND® (SL4 4AY), which is just a short drive from Slough in your rental car. There are LEGO-inspired rides and attractions, including LEGO City Driving School. Parking is available at a cost – but can be booked online in advance.

Eton College 

Less than 20 minutes from Slough you’ll find Eton College (SL4 6DW), an exclusive boarding school attended by the likes of princes William and Harry. You can join an hour and a half guided tour on Friday afternoons. You’ll see the school yard, college chapel and upper and lower school, as well as the Museum of Eton Life.  There are paid parking spaces nearby.

Windsor Castle

You’re only 15 minutes away from the world’s oldest and largest occupied castle – Windsor Castle (SL4 1NJ). It’s been home to the royal family for more than a thousand years. Admire it from the outside or head in for a closer look. If the flag is flying, the Queen is there.  There are long stay paid parking options in Windsor town centre.

Tummies 

There’s a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu as well as Sunday lunch and specials at Tummies – a centrally located restaurant. There’s also a cookery school and a Chef’s Table, where your meal is cooked in front of you. 

New Bettola

This Italian restaurant just outside the centre serves up fresh dishes cooked to order. Head here for lunch or dinner and choose between pasta, meat, fish and salad. There’s also a wood fired pizza oven. In the summer, you can enjoy your meal in the garden.

Panjab Restaurant

This Indian restaurant specializes in Panjabi cuisine. The extensive menu includes sharing platters, curries, gourmet burgers and rolls, speciality dishes and small plates. Chicken tikka burger, Tandoori lamb chops and Masala fish curry are just a few things on the menu. All enjoyed in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Best days out near Slough

Thorpe Park

Thrill seekers will adore a day out at Thorpe Park (KT16 8PN), which is under 30 minutes away from Slough via the A308. There are more than 30 rides including SAW - a horror-themed ride with a 100 foot beyond-vertical drop. Parking costs, but is cheaper if bought in advance online.

Ascot Racecourse

Take the A332 in your rental car to reach the charming town of Ascot in around 30 minutes. Here, you’ll find the prestigious Ascot Racecourse (SL5 7JX). Royal Ascot takes place in June, but you can see races throughout the year. Dress up, place your bets and cheer for your chosen horse. There is lots of parking, which is free during race days.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

You’re just over half an hour via the M4 from Kew Gardens (TW9 3AE). Wander around the lush green gardens, alongside the lake and Palm House, admiring the variety of plants. There are events here throughout the year, including Kew the Music, an outdoor summer concert in July.  Parking is limited and is paid.
